CARING FOR YOUR TIMBER

Care & Maintenance Guide

Our furniture and joinery pieces are finished with a high-quality matte water-based clear coat, designed to protect the timber while retaining a natural, low-sheen appearance. With the right care, your piece will age beautifully over time.

Daily & Routine Cleaning

For regular cleaning:

  • Wipe with a soft microfibre cloth
  • Use warm water or a light spray of Bona Wood Floor Cleaner (spray cleaner only – not polish)
  • Wipe gently and dry the surface if needed

This is all that’s required for day-to-day care.

Spills & Marks

  • Wipe spills promptly to avoid staining
  • Avoid leaving moisture, heat, or liquids on the      surface for extended periods
  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets where      possible

Stubborn Marks (Food, Light Scuffs, General Grime)

If a mark does not come off with normal cleaning:

  1. Use a slightly damp microfibre cloth
  2. Add a tiny drop of mild dishwashing liquid
  3. Gently wipe the affected area
  4. Rinse with clean water and dry immediately

Do not scrub or use excessive pressure.

Ink, Permanent Marker & Dye Stains

Permanent marker, ink, dye, paint, or similar stains should not be treated with household cleaners or solvents.

These marks may penetrate the finish and require professional repair.

What NOT to Use (Important)

Do not use the following on Timber Assembly furniture:

  • Furniture polish or “reviver” products
  • Wax or oil-based cleaners
  • Silicone-based sprays (e.g. aerosol furniture      sprays)
  • Abrasive cleaners or pastes
  • Citrus / orange oil cleaners
  • Vinegar, alcohol, acetone, or solvent cleaners
  • Scouring pads or abrasive sponges

These products can permanently damage the finish or affect future refinishing.

Long-Term Care & Refreshing

Our finish system is designed to be repairable and refreshable.

If your piece shows wear over time or you would like it refreshed, Timber Assembly can advise on:

  • Localised repairs
  • Professional re-coating
  • Finish maintenance options

Please get in touch before attempting any aggressive cleaning or repairs.

PROTECTING YOUR TIMBER

At TIMBER ASSEMBLY, we believe that proper care for your timber furniture is essential for longevity. Our pieces are crafted with a high-quality matte water-based clear coat that protects the timber while allowing it to breathe. Regular maintenance will ensure your furniture retains its beauty for years to come.

TIMBER DISCLAIMER

At Timber Assembly, we take pride in crafting high-quality handmade timber furniture. Our pieces are made from natural materials, meaning each one is truly unique.

Natural Movement & Environmental Factors

Timber is a living material that continues to respond to its environment even after being crafted into furniture. Changes in temperature, humidity, and exposure to sunlight can cause natural movement, such as expansion, contraction, or minor surface cracks. These are not flaws but natural characteristics of timber that add to its beauty and individuality. To minimize movement, we recommend keeping your furniture in a stable environment, away from direct heat sources, excessive moisture, and prolonged direct sunlight.

Unique Characteristics & Variations

Because timber is a natural material, no two pieces will ever be identical. Each item will have its own unique grain patterns, knots, color variations, and organic imperfections. While we strive to match your expectations and maintain consistency across our work, every piece will have its own distinct character. This uniqueness is what makes handmade timber furniture so special.

By purchasing from Timber Assembly, you acknowledge and appreciate these natural variations. We are committed to delivering high-quality craftsmanship and ensuring that your furniture meets your expectations while embracing the beauty of nature’s individuality. If you have any questions about care or maintenance, please feel free to contact us.
