CARING FOR YOUR TIMBER

With its timeless beauty and depth, timber furniture brings natural elegance to any room. However, because it’s a natural material, it can be prone to scratches, stains, and other signs of wear if not cared for properly.

In this guide, we’ll share tips on how to clean, polish, and protect your timber furniture, helping it maintain its beauty for years to come.

HOW TO CLEAN yOUR TIMBER

Regular cleaning is essential for preserving the texture and appearance of your timber furniture, ensuring it lasts longer and stays looking beautiful.

  • Dust regularly: Gently wipe down your furniture with a clean microfiber cloth to remove dust.
  • Clean spills immediately: Promptly address spills to prevent lasting damage.
  • Avoid harsh cleaning products: Do not use general cleaning solutions on timber. Instead, use a dampened microfiber sponge to clean surfaces.
  • Say no to chemicals: Never use products containing silicon, detergents, or any chemical-based cleaners on timber.

HOW TO POLISH YOUR TIMBER

  • Polish monthly: Use a trusted furniture polish to nourish and protect unsealed timber surfaces.
  • Clean surfaces first: Make sure all surfaces are free of dust before applying polish.
  • Dry surfaces thoroughly: Ensure your furniture is dry, or wipe it down with a microfiber cloth before applying polish.
  • Avoid silicon-based products: Stick to polishes that don’t leave a greasy residue, and never use general cleaning products on timber.

PROTECTING YOUR TIMBER

Timber is a beautiful and durable material, but just like fabric or leather, it requires careful attention. By following a few simple precautions, you can keep your timber furniture in excellent shape:

  • Avoid direct sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV light can cause discoloration or deterioration of the surface.
  • Protect surfaces: Always use coasters and placemats to shield your furniture from hot or cold objects, such as drinks or bottles.
  • Don’t drag heavy objects: Be mindful of how you move items, especially heavy or abrasive ones like plates and glassware, to prevent scratches and damage.
  • Watch out for harsh chemicals: Keep products like nail polish remover, hairspray, perfume, and other corrosive substances away from your furniture.
  • Don’t write directly on timber: Writing directly on timber surfaces, especially veneer, can leave marks.
  • Regular care: Dust regularly, clean up spills right away, and polish once a month.
  • Temperature & humidity control: Be aware that changing temperatures and humidity levels can cause timber to expand or contract, potentially leading to cracks or warping.

By following these simple steps, your timber furniture will maintain its natural beauty and function for many years to come.

TIMBER DISCLAIMER

At Timber Assembly, we take pride in crafting high-quality handmade timber furniture. Our pieces are made from natural materials, meaning each one is truly unique.

Natural Movement & Environmental Factors

Timber is a living material that continues to respond to its environment even after being crafted into furniture. Changes in temperature, humidity, and exposure to sunlight can cause natural movement, such as expansion, contraction, or minor surface cracks. These are not flaws but natural characteristics of timber that add to its beauty and individuality. To minimize movement, we recommend keeping your furniture in a stable environment, away from direct heat sources, excessive moisture, and prolonged direct sunlight.

Unique Characteristics & Variations

Because timber is a natural material, no two pieces will ever be identical. Each item will have its own unique grain patterns, knots, color variations, and organic imperfections. While we strive to match your expectations and maintain consistency across our work, every piece will have its own distinct character. This uniqueness is what makes handmade timber furniture so special.

By purchasing from Timber Assembly, you acknowledge and appreciate these natural variations. We are committed to delivering high-quality craftsmanship and ensuring that your furniture meets your expectations while embracing the beauty of nature’s individuality. If you have any questions about care or maintenance, please feel free to contact us.
